YARMOUTH, Maine — Two people were taken to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries after a rear-end collision just south of Exit 15 on I-295 southbound in Yarmouth Thursday.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said an initial investigation showed the driver of a white Ford van owned by Air Mart Inc. out of Lowell, Massachusetts, was following too closely when he struck a Lincoln Navigator that was slowing in traffic, forcing both vehicles off the road.
The driver of the van, 30-year-old John Gill of Stoneham, Massachusetts, was not injured, Moss said.
The driver of the Lincoln Navigator, 57-year-old Sylvia Stevens of Columbus, Ohio, and her passenger, 66-year-old Fredric Williams of Portland, were taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to Moss.
One lane of traffic was closed in the area as officials treated Stevens and Williams and removed the vehicles, Moss said. Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the Yarmouth Fire Department, Freeport Fire Department, Falmouth Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maine Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
