Vehicle hits fire hydrant in Westbrook, causing road to flood

No injuries were reported, police said.

WESTBROOK, Maine — Westbrook police are asking drivers to avoid Warren Avenue, after a car struck a fire hydrant there Friday morning, causing the roadway to flood.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

As of 8 a.m., traffic was reduced to a single lane in the area between Main Street and Riverside Street. However, both lanes were open around 8:30 a.m.

Emergency officials told NEWS CENTER Maine that they did not have a specific timeline of when the road would be cleared, as the situation was still developing.

Westbrook police said water service may be disrupted for the area, and crews may close the road entirely, the department shared in a post on Facebook.

NEWS CENTER Maine was at the scene by 8 a.m., where crews were seen assessing the area and helping direct traffic around the flooded areas.

This story is developing and will be updated as information becomes available.
