PORTLAND, Maine — Several major roads will be closed in parts of the state as cities and towns prepare for Fourth of July parades, fireworks, and other festivities.
Here's what you need to know to prepare for traveling in Portland, Bangor, and Lewiston on Tuesday.
Bangor
Roads in Bangor will be closed starting around 9:30 a.m., according to the Bangor Police Department.
The 42nd Annual Walter Hunt Fourth of July 3K road race will be held from Brewer into Bangor. The race begins in Brewer at 9:45 a.m. starting at the Brewer Auditorium, traveling across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge to Bangor, then turns right onto Main Street and then State Street, then right onto Exchange Street and across the footbridge to the finish line, the course map indicates.
The Fourth of July parade will follow a similar route.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Wilson Street in Brewer, cross over the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, turn right on Main Street, right again on State Street, and right a final time onto Exchange Street. The parade will be ending on York Street in the area of the Kenduskeag Plaza.
Bangor police say the roads will be reopened after pedestrian traffic clears.
