FREEPORT, Maine — State Police say I-295 lanes from Brunswick to Freeport were closed early Wednesday morning following a tractor-trailer crash in the area.
As of 7 a.m., the Maine Turnpike Authority said both northbound and southbound lanes have been reopened.
A flatbed truck hauling several crushed cars overturned in Freeport spilling the load onto the road on both south and northbound lanes, according to the spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety Steve McCausland.
A second tractor-trailer going northbound struck some of the wreckage that had spilled into that lane.
The northbound lanes are now open and wreckers are still clearing debris from the southbound side.
Both drivers escaped serious injuries.
The driver who caused the crash told troopers he lost control of the truck in heavy fog, it struck a guard rail and overturned.
Maine State Police troopers are on scene. The Maine Department of Transportation, the Freeport Police Department, and Freeport Fire are assisting.
