Shapleigh crash leaves 18-year-old with serious injuries

The 18-year-old's injuries are serious but not considered life-threatening, according to the York County Sheriff's Office.

SHAPLEIGH, Maine — An 18-year-old from North Waterboro was seriously injured in a crash in Shapleigh Tuesday morning.

Sarah Stevens was taken to Maine Medical Center, and her injuries are not considered life-threatening, the York County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the area of 563 Newfield Road.

The sheriff's office said an investigation showed Stevens was driving a 2020 Nissan Rogue south on Newfield Road when "she may have turned directly in front of" a 2015 Ford F150 being driven by 51-year-old Harvey Heathcote of Shapleigh, who was traveling north. Stevens was turning left into a private driveway when the crash happened, according to officials.

Heathcote was not injured, the release stated.

The sheriff's office said the Kennebunk Police Department would be reconstructing the crash.

Newfield Road was reduced to one lane for four hours while the scene was being reconstructed.

In addition to the Shapleigh Fire Department, the Newfield and Ross Corner fire departments also responded to the scene.
