SEARSMONT, Maine — One person died and three others were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Searsmont on Saturday.
It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Appleton Ridge Road, the Waldo County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday in a news release.
An initial investigation showed that a 2007 Nissan Versa went off the road and hit two large trees, the release stated.
Dakota Deane, 24, of Appleton, died at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
The three other occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. The sheriff's office said their identities would be released at a later date.
Traffic in the area was detoured for about four hours during the crash response. The crash reconstruction and forensic mapping were done by Maine State Police, according to the sheriff's office.
In addition to state police and the sheriff's office, several area fire departments and EMS providers responded, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation.
