RICHMOND, Maine — Officials closed a section of Main Street in Richmond Tuesday morning due to a propane leak.
The Richmond Fire Department responded to Acord Auto and Self Storage and found an active propane tank leaking from the valve, the department said in a press release.
Fire crews from Richmond, Bowdoinham, Bowdoin, Litchfield, Dresden, Pittston, Lisbon, and Gardiner responded to the scene, along with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, Richmond police, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Department of Transportation, Main Street Fuel, and the Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency, the release stated.
Crews quickly worked to contain the leak. The cause is still under investigation, according to the fire department.
No injuries were reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, the fire department said.
Main Street was closed from the Exit 43 Quik Stop gas station at 712 Main Street to Enterprise Farms at 467 Main Street for about two hours Tuesday morning. The stretch of road reopened around 8:45 a.m.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office said it alerted and called businesses and residents in the area about the leak.
