RAYMOND, Maine — Two people were taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries after two vehicles collided in Raymond on Tuesday night.
It happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the area of 658 Webbs Mills Rd., the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday.
An initial investigation by the sheriff's office found that a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline and struck a Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound, the release stated.
The teen was driving the Malibu. As of Wednesday, the driver of the Corolla, 21-year-old Nathaniel Crane, was in the intensive care unit at Maine Medical Center with serious internal injuries, his father Jared Crane told NEWS CENTER Maine. Maine Medical Center confirmed Wednesday that Crane was in serious condition.
Both vehicles were totaled, according to the release.
The sheriff's office, which is reconstructing the crash, said speed appeared to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
The Raymond and Casco fire and rescue departments also responded to the scene, according to the release.
Correction: An initial version of this story stated that Nathaniel Crane was not injured in the crash, as that's what the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said in its release. However, Crane's father told NEWS CENTER Maine his son was taken to Maine Medical Center to be treated for internal injuries, and Maine Medical Center confirmed Wednesday that Crane was in serious condition.
