Norway woman dies in Oxford crash

The woman was pulling out of a gas station when the crash happened, according to police.

OXFORD, Maine — A woman from the town of Norway died Wednesday after a crash on Route 26 in Oxford.

Route 26 is also referred to as Main Street. The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. at the Irving/Nouria gas station located at 1332 Main Street.

Trudy Giroux, 65, died at the scene, Oxford police told NEWS CENTER Maine.

Giroux was pulling out of the gas station in a Subaru Legacy when her vehicle was struck by a southbound pickup truck driven by Shannon Evans, 42, of Mexico, Maine, according to police.

Evans' truck had false license plates, and she was charged with evasion of registration fees and excise taxes, police said.

Traffic was detoured to Oxford Street during the road closure. Route 26 has since reopened.

NOTICE - There has been a significant accident on Rt 26 near Irving/Nouria gas station. Route 26 has been closed and traffic is being detoured to Oxford Street. Please seek an alternative route.
