Construction flagger, 24, dies in crash with pickup truck in Orland

The man was working traffic control for a construction zone at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

ORLAND, Maine — A man working as a construction flagger in Orland died Tuesday after being hit by a pickup truck.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m. on Acadia Highway, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

Clint Clagett, 70, of Bucksport, was traveling east on Acadia Highway when he approached a construction zone, according to the release. Charles Resh, 24, of Searsport, was working traffic control for the construction zone, allowing traffic to travel east in the westbound lane due to the eastbound lane being closed for paving, the sheriff's office said.

The truck hit Resh in the eastbound lane, the release stated. Resh was taken by ambulance to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

The pickup truck sustained damage to the front bumper, grill, and hood as a result of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Bucksport Fire and Ambulance Service, the Orland Fire Department, Hancock County District Attorney Robert Granger, and Maine State Police also responded to the scene, the release stated.

The sheriff's office said no further details would be released at this time.
