NEW SHARON, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in New Sharon that resulted in the death of one individual.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Monday, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police responded to the crash on Route 2 involving a 2007 Ford Focus and 2022 Dodge Ram, a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss stated.
An initial investigation revealed the Ford Focus was turning left out of Tuttles Auto Sales and onto Route 2 when the driver of the Dodge Ram was unable to stop, striking the Ford Focus, Moss said.
The driver of the Ford Focus was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger was brought to Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight with "critical injuries." Officials have not yet disclosed the identities of either individuals.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured, Moss said.
Route 2 was closed for approximately two hours, and drivers were asked to avoid the area. The roadway was cleared as of 3:51 p.m., according to Moss.
The investigation is ongoing.
