WELLS, Maine — A Massachusetts woman is facing charges after allegedly running a red light and causing a multi-vehicle crash, involving a police cruiser, in Wells, Maine on Tuesday night while operating under the influence.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Wells police officer reported that when he approached an intersection off Exit 19 while traveling east on Route 109, a vehicle exited on the Interstate 95 off-ramp, and ran a red light—causing the officer to strike the passenger side of a 2006 Volvo, according to a Wells PD Facebook post.
The Volvo was then pushed into a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was stopped at the red light waiting to exit the Wells Transportation Center. A 2019 Toyota Rav 4 was stopped behind the pickup truck, also waiting to exit the center at the red light, according to the post.
Due to all the vehicles involved, police said there is an undetermined amount of damage.
The driver of the Volvo, 68-year-old Victoria Mann, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, reportedly complained of minor hip pain but refused treatment. Police said the other drivers of the vehicles involved were not injured.
The officer involved, Dylan McNally, reportedly complained of wrist pain and was treated at York Hospital and released later, according to the post.
The front end of the police cruiser, a 2021 Ford Explorer, was damaged extensively, police said.
"Maine State Police were summoned to conduct the accident investigation, which is standard procedure whenever a police cruiser is involved in an accident. The accident was captured on the officer’s Body Camera and Cruiser WatchGuard Dash Camera," the Facebook post stated.
According to police, Mann was charged and arrested at the scene with operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was later released on $360 cash bail and will make a court appearance at the York County Judicial Center on Dec. 27.
