PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A man from Holden is accused of driving under the influence following a crash early Monday morning along Interstate 95 in New Hampshire that injured several people.

Emergency officials responded to the single-vehicle crash reported at the on-ramp for the northbound lane of I-95 in Portsmouth around 1:53 a.m., according to a news release issued by New Hampshire Department of Public Safety.

Investigators at the scene determined that a Honda Accord, driven by 40-year-old Michael Tardiff of Holden, Maine, reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the curve, causing it to leave the left-side of the onramp before coming to rest after striking a tree in the wooded area near the road, according to the release.

Tardiff and two additional passengers were brought by ambulance to a nearby hospital for serious injuries that officials said were not considered life-threatening.

New Hampshire officials said Tardiff was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and reckless operation and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.

The northbound ramp was closed to traffic for two hours while troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel worked to remove the vehicle from the brush, according to the release, and all lanes reopened around 3:41 a.m.

Members of the Portsmouth Police Department, the Portsmouth Fire Department, and the National Wrecker Service assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
