New Hampshire tractor-trailer driver, 73, injured in Maine Turnpike crash

The man was driving a tractor-trailer when it went off the roadway and got intertwined with a guardrail, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

WELLS, Maine — A 73-year-old tractor-trailer driver was injured in a crash on the Maine Turnpike in Wells early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 2:20 a.m. at southbound mile marker 22, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a press release.

Larry Beaugeard of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, was driving southbound in rainy conditions when he lost control of the tractor-trailer and went off the roadway to the left, Moss said.

The tractor-trailer got intertwined with a guardrail, causing disabling damage to the truck, the release stated. This resulted in the tractor-trailer blocking two southbound lanes and two northbound lanes of traffic.

Beaugeard was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, officials said.

The tractor-trailer, owned by The Granite Group, was mostly empty, but some plumbing supplies that it was carrying became strewn across the northbound lanes, according to Moss.

As of 6:30 a.m., Moss said drivers should avoid the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Maine State Police, Wells police, the Maine Turnpike Authority, and the Kennebunk Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as Ray's Truck Service to provide towing.
