CLINTON, Maine — Maine State Police responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on Interstate 95 in Clinton Thursday night.
The truck was hauling approximately 15 million bees and crashed at mile 141 northbound on the interstate, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday in a news release.
Troopers responded to the crash just before 7 p.m. The tractor-trailer driver was brought to the hospital with "complaints of pain," the release stated.
"The bees were mostly contained, and the goal was to save them," Moss said.
The right lane was shut down throughout Thursday night.
The truck was on its way to Washington County, where the bees were to be used for pollinating blueberry fields.
Clinton Fire Department, Burnham Fire Department, Maine DOT, Dostie's Towing and the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry also assisted at the scene.
