LIBERTY, Maine — A teenager involved in a crash in the Waldo County town of Liberty last week has died.
Blair Fuller-Barnard, 18, of Montville, died Saturday, according to her mother. At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Fuller-Barnard was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry on West Main Street when she turned onto Belfast Augusta Road and failed to yield to a Dodge Ram pickup truck headed west and a tractor-trailer headed east, according to the Waldo County Sheriff's Office. Fuller-Barnard and her passenger, 19-year-old Donovan Aldus of Montville, were flown by a medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment. Aldus remains hospitalized with "severe" injuries.
"Though we prayed for a miracle for Blair, she ultimately became the miracle for many others by donating her organs," her mother, Terri Smart, wrote on a GoFundMe page to raise money for her daughter's funeral expenses and to help with Aldus' recovery. "This is so on point to her character, putting the needs of others before her own."
"Donovan remains hospitalized with severe injuries and will be unable to return to his employment for the foreseen future. It is our hope to raise funds for end of life and medical expenses (Donovan is uninsured) of the couple due to this tragedy. There will be a celebration of life to honor Blair at a later date, we will share details as they become available."
The pickup truck driver, a 58-year-old Freeport man, and the tractor-trailer driver, a 62-year-old Belgrade man, were not hurt in the crash.
