FREEPORT, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a rollover crash that happened around 7 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 295 in Freeport.
Police said a white GMC work van with five people inside went off the roadway to the left "for an unknown reason" and struck the crossover. The van rolled over and came to a rest, blocking a lane of traffic, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
The driver, 29-year-old Edison Uscha-Roto of South Portland, was driving the vehicle with a suspended license, according to Moss. He and three other passengers were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Cumberland, Freeport, and Yarmouth rescue agencies responded to assist the Yarmouth and Freeport police departments.
Copp Motors removed the van, which was carrying construction tools and equipment. The equipment was "strewn across lane one and into the median," Moss said.
One northbound lane was closed for nearly two hours but has since reopened.
This investigation is ongoing.
