Multiple crews respond to house fire in Brewer

A portion of North Main Street was closed to traffic while crews worked to put out the fire. It has since reopened, officials said.

PORTLAND, Maine — A portion of North Main Street in Brewer was blocked off earlier this afternoon due to a house fire.

Officials said they got a call for an explosion around noon.

Fire officials responded to an area east of downtown Brewer, close to the Eddington town line, where they discovered a house fire, according to a Facebook post from the Brewer Police Department. 

Fire crews from Bangor, Brewer, Orrington, Hampden, and Holden all responded to the scene.

Fire officials said the homeowner was home when the fire started and was able to escape without any injuries.

North Main Street has since reopened to traffic.
