Route 27 reopens after fatal crash in Dresden

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said on social media that Gardiner Road (Route 27) near the intersection with Carriage Court was closed to all traffic.

DRESDEN, Maine — Deputies were on the scene of a fatal crash Monday afternoon in Dresden.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said on social media at about 3:20 p.m. that Gardiner Road (Route 27) near the intersection with Carriage Court was closed to all traffic.

"Deputies are currently working with our public safety partners at a scene of a three-vehicle crash that unfortunately includes at least one fatality," the post stated.

The sheriff's office advised drivers to avoid the area and expect a prolonged closure.

NEWS CENTER Maine sent a crew to the scene and learned while on the way that traffic for Route 27 was being redirected to Middle Road, also known as Route 127.

Several ambulances, including ones from Woolwich and Wiscasset, were seen heading south on Route 27.

A volunteer firefighter at the scene told NEWS CENTER Maine that three people were injured with the possibility of one more, but the sheriff's office has not confirmed that information yet.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police issued an update stating Route 27 had reopened to traffic.

This story is developing and will be updated as information becomes available.
