Driver flees after causing propane truck crash in Farmington, police say

Parts of Route 2, Red Schoolhouse Road, and Knowlton Corner Road were closed while crews removed the truck from the scene. Those roads reopened around 3:30 p.m.

FARMINGTON, Maine — A driver fled after causing a propane truck crash in Farmington Monday, according to police.

Scott McAuley of Wilton was driving a white Chevrolet pickup truck on Red Schoolhouse Road and turning onto Route 2 around noon when he failed to yield and pulled out in front of the moving propane truck, which belongs to Valley Gas & Oil, according to Farmington police Chief Kenneth Charles.

The chief said the propane truck driver swerved to avoid a collision and crashed near a Domino's restaurant.

"The propane truck tipped over in the process and fortunately, no injuries were sustained in what could have been a deadly crash," Charles said, adding the propane tank had a minor leak that was contained, he added.

McAuley drove off but an officer quickly identified him and issued him a court summons for leaving the scene of a crash, Charles said.
