ELLSWORTH, Maine — A man died Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving struck a marked Maine State Police cruiser in Ellsworth.
It happened around 7:30 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Thursday in a press release.
Trooper Ryan Murry was parked in a gravel turnout off Route 180 when a southbound 2008 Toyota Sienna van driven by Jonathan Wood, 43, of Winter Harbor, crossed the roadway and hit Murry's cruiser, Moss said.
Wood's van rolled over, throwing him from the vehicle, according to the release. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and he died at the scene, Moss said.
Murry sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released from a nearby hospital, the release stated.
Ellsworth police, fire, and EMS responded to the scene to assist, and a state police reconstructionist responded to examine the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Moss said.
