ARUNDEL, Maine — Drivers who were headed through Arundel on Tuesday may have experienced some traffic delays during rush hour.
The York County Sheriff's Office said the delays were due to a dump truck fire in the area of 987 Alfred Road (Route 111) where the vehicle was fully engulfed.
Deputies said a 19-year-old operator from Sanford was driving a 2005 Kenworth dump truck belonging to N.M. Curtis Earthworks out of Berwick when he saw smoke coming from the vehicle as he turned west onto Alfred Road from Limerick Road. The driver pulled over and the dump truck was soon fully engulfed in flames.
Arundel, Goodwins Mills, and Biddeford Fire Departments responded to the scene and put out the blaze, the sheriff's office said.
Alfred Road was reportedly closed for an "extended period of time" until Ray's Truck Services removed the vehicle.
"There were no injuries, just a lot of detours during the rush hour traffic," the sheriff's office said.
