Driver dies, passenger injured in China crash

"Preliminary investigation has shown that speed and alcohol were factors in this crash," the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

CHINA, Maine — One person died and another was injured in a crash in China on Wednesday.

It happened around 4 p.m. on Maple Ridge Road, according to a release from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the scene after a caller witnessed a blue 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee go off the road and hit a tree, the release stated.

The driver of the vehicle, Faith Pomerleau, 22, of Winslow, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

The passenger, Morgan Lacombe, 20, of Winslow, had to be removed from the vehicle by first responders, according to the release. She was taken by ambulance to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta before being flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with serious injuries, the release stated.

"Preliminary investigation has shown that speed and alcohol were factors in this crash," the sheriff's office said. "Our deepest condolences go out to the families involved."
