Box truck hits railroad overpass in Carmel, sheriff's office investigates

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, a box truck hit the railroad overpass on Five Road in Carmel. No injuries were reported, officials say.

CARMEL, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon when a box truck struck a railroad overpass in Carmel.

According to the sheriff's office, the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report that a box truck hit the railroad overpass on Five Road around 2:30 p.m. 

Officials said the driver reported no injuries, but said there was extensive damage to the truck. Deputies and railroad officials responded to the scene to assess any damages to the bridge.

The sheriff's office noted the overpass has been struck before, but said the road and overpass are well posted.

No other information was available Thursday morning.
