Standish crash sends 2 to hospital after one driver allegedly falls asleep

The sheriff's office said an investigation showed one driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line.

STANDISH, Maine — Two drivers were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries following a crash in Standish early Thursday morning.

The Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call around 6:39 a.m. reporting a head-on motor vehicle collision near 450 Whites Bridge Road, according to a release from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found two pickup trucks had collided, causing significant damage to both vehicles, according to the release.

The sheriff's office said an investigation showed Kevin Tibbets, 39, of Poland, had fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line, hitting Marc Senechal, 69, of Standish.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital by Standish Rescue for injuries not considered life-threatening, the release stated.

The area of Whites Bridge Road was closed for a short period to transport patients and remove the damaged vehicles.

Standish Fire Department assisted the sheriff's office with the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
