BANGOR, Maine — On Thursday, the Maine Discovery Museum is opening its doors to the general public again after a nearly two-year hiatus because of the pandemic. The museum located in downtown Bangor opened in January, but only for members.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the museum's exhibits once again, but there is a small change coming along with its reopening. Visitors need to make a reservation online before stopping by.
"Hands-on, working with things, interacting with these exhibits is important so kids can develop skills and learn how to work with each other collaboratively," said Maine Discovery Museum Executive Director Niles Parker. "We try to make out exhibits about Maine as much as possible."
Parker tells NEWS CENTER Maine that even with the museum's doors closed to the public, they were able to continue to educate kids on subjects like science.
"One of the things that we've done over that time is created these interactive science kits that we shipped all over the country, actually," explained Niles. "It was a way for kids to get their hands-on science, learn about it, and have fun doing about it that time."
The Maine Science Festival is also making a comeback after being away for two years. The festival is expected to run from March 16 to 20. It’s a program of the Maine Discovery Museum and will include more than 70 events and activities, organizers tell NEWS CENTER Maine.
