BANGOR, Maine — As we're nearing the end of the holiday season, some people might still be stuck with waste that doesn't quite fit in the trash can. But for Bangor residents, the city is offering some help.
Bangor Public Works is holding a holiday waste drop off week at its facility from Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Monday, Jan. 9. Hours to drop off are 7 a.m. until sunset.
Dumpsters will be available for residents to throw out things like wrapping paper, bows, plastic, packing peanuts, wreaths, and Christmas trees.
"Ideally we would like to recycle the cardboard if possible, so bring your plastic bags full of the holiday waste, then your cardboard separately," Aaron Huotari, the director of Bangor Public Works, said.
The city is also doing a Christmas tree pickup. Huotari said residents should put their tree by the curb if they would like it to be picked up by public works.
"Get them out by the street, earlier the better," Huotari said. "Make sure that the metal base isn't still attached to them, [and] there's no decorations on them."
Tree pickup begins Tuesday and will run until Jan. 13.
