OWLS HEAD, Maine — The Owls Head Transportation Museum closed to the public Friday to host a special field trip for area kids.
Universities and companies joined the museum in welcoming more than 300 middle schoolers from the midcoast for a day of science, technology, engineering, and math. They controlled robots, raced cars, and learned lessons in ways they just can’t in a classroom.
Megan Galinsky is the museum's education director.
"A lot of students just are not aware of what they can [do], different paths they can go through post-high school or post-middle school," Galinsky said. "And so, what we did is we had universities, we had mechanical arts, we had Midcoast School of Technology; just different organizations come in and show students what they could do in a STEM field throughout their years."
The museum planned to host an additional STEM day Saturday, open to the public and free of charge.
