(NEWS CENTER) -- Scarborough running back/linebacker Owen Garrard has been named the 2017 Gatorade Maine Football Player of the Year.
Garrard's stats for his senior season were impressive. He rushed for 1,204 yards and 24 touchdowns, and also caught two TD passes. On defense, he recorded 76 tackles, 10 for loss, two sacks and one interception.
Garrard is the first player from Scarborough High School to receive this honor. He is also one of 12 semifinalists for the FItzpatrick Trophy, given annually in Maine to the top high school senior football player.
