AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine's wild turkeys are on notice: the state's youth hunters are on the trail.

Saturday is Youth Hunting Day in Maine's spring turkey season. Children who are younger than 16 years old and possess a junior hunting license are allowed to hunt under adult supervision.

The young hunters can use a shotgun, bow and arrow or crossbow. They are allowed to take up to two bearded wild turkeys but must also abide by the bag limits of the state's individual wildlife management districts.

The youth hunt kicks off the spring turkey season. The open season begins on May 2 and ends on June 4.
