Summer campground reservations for Maine state parks to open this week

Even though we're still in the thick of winter, now's the time to think ahead and start making summer plans.

MAINE, USA — Summer might seem far off as we're nearing the end of January and bracing for another winter weather event, but now is the time to start planning your next outdoor adventure.

Beginning next week, campground reservations at Maine state parks will open for the 2024 season, according to the Maine Bureau of Public Lands website.

Campgrounds at Lily Bay State Park near Moosehead Lake and Sebago Lake State Park will be the first to open for bookings Thursday, Feb. 1. Reservations will be available soon after for all state park campgrounds the following Tuesday, Feb. 6, the website states.

Be warned—those reservations are quickly booked on a first-come-first-serve basis. The storm dates have been issued for booking reservations, for Friday, Feb. 2, and Feb. 7, one day after each original booking date.

Those looking to reserve a campsite can do so online, by contacting the call center, or by mail. Walk-in reservations are no longer accepted, according to the website.

Group camping reservations cannot be made online and must be made by contacting the park directly. Those looking to reserve a campsite online will be able to do so until 4 p.m. Sept. 8.
