AUGUSTA, Maine — Applications for Maine's moose permit lottery are open, and they will be accepted online only.
To apply online, go to mefishwildlife.com and fill out the online moose permit application. Applications must be completed by 11:59 pm on May 15, 2024.
"You will be able to indicate several preferences, including which wildlife management districts (WMD) you are willing to accept a permit in and if you would accept a permit in another WMD if your name is drawn and all of your top choices are filled," the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said in a release. "You will also be able to select your preferred hunting season, whether or not you would accept an antlerless permit, and your choice of a sub-permittee. You will also be asked if you want to apply for the Adaptive Unit Hunt (WMD 4A)."
The 2024 moose lottery permit drawing is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, in Fort Kent, according to officials.

There still won't be any moose hunting on Sundays in Maine. Earlier this year, Maine's longstanding Sunday hunting ban was upheld by the state Supreme Court.
The ban, which has been in effect since 1883, does not conflict with a new state law protecting the right to harvest food, justices said in a ruling against Virginia and Joel Parker, a Readfield couple who argued the ban clashes with a recently enacted right-to-food amendment in the state Constitution.
