NEWRY (NEWS CENTER Maine) — The mountain where Troy Murphy honed his skiing skills was a fitting place for him to share the lessons of his Olympic experience.
Fans, who just a few weeks ago watched Murphy compete on TV, hit the slopes to ski by his side at Sunday River on Sunday.
"I'm always coming home and seeing the excitement and kids having fun. 'Cause I remember when I was that age, it made a big difference when good skiers would come around and talk to you," Murphy said. "So, I'm really lucky and humbled that I get to come do it and talk to them."
Murphy competed in moguls at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. He advanced on a strong, fourth-place qualifying performance. But his run ended after finishing 17th in the first round of the finals.
Every one of his events became must-see television at viewing parties in his hometown of Bethel. At his first public appearance since returning home, Murphy repaid that support by offering skiing tips, signing autographs and posing for pictures.
