(NEWS CENTER) — Ann Turbyne Andrews was undersized for her event which was the shot put. She made up for that with strength and speed. She set a national high school record in the event. She was also the nation's leading collegiate putter. In 1976, she broke her wrist and couldn't go to the Olympic trials. In 1980, she made the Olympic team which boycotted the Moscow games.
She did not agree with President Carter's decision to boycott. However, she did attend a White House event to meet the President and received a Congressional Medal of Achievement.
She returned to Maine to coach and teach.
