Bowdoin College swimmer to represent Haiti at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Alexandre Grand'Pierre is a senior at Bowdoin College and is the third Grand'Pierre in his family to represent Haiti at the Olympics.

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Bowdoin College swimmer Alexandre "Alex" Grand'Pierre has been selected to represent the nation of Haiti at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 21-year-old is a senior Polar Bear swimmer who holds numerous records at the school and over his already impressive career.

Grand'Pierre qualified for the Paris Games in the 100-meter breaststroke in June after finishing first place with the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships, or CCCAN, for a time of 1:02:39. He's the record holder for that event with CCCAN.

Grand'Pierre holds numerous records for breaststroke events at Bowdoin, as well as regionally and internationally, before he even kicks off the blocks at the Paris Aquatics Centre later this month.

He was first picked as a competitor to swim with Team Haiti back in 2019, when he was just 19 years old, and is the third member of his family to swim at the Olympics. According to his school swim bio, his older sister Naomy competed in the 2016 Rio Games and another older sister Emilie competed in the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The athletics department said Grand'Pierre is the fifth Summer Olympian in the school's history and is the ninth Olympic competitor from the school overall.

Grand'Pierre will swim the 100-meter breaststroke event in the Paris Games on July 27.

Opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics is on Friday, July 26. You'll be able to watch it all on NEWS CENTER Maine.
