Nine inducted into Maine's Baseball Hall of Fame

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Baseball Hall of Fame grew by nine on Sunday. Members were recognized and received plaques for their accomplishments at the 46th annual induction ceremony.

Inductees include:

  • Dan Kane of Surry: He played on two UMaine College World Series teams in 1984 and 1986. He coached at George Stevens Academy for 27 years, winning three state titles.
  • David Gonyar of Bangor: He played on two UMaine teams that advanced to the College World Series. He also coached at Bucksport High School.
  • John Sawyer: He is a former left-handed pitcher for Messalonskee High School. He also pitched in the 1976 College World Series for UMaine. He coached at Narraguagus High School for 13 years, winning a state title in 1986.
  • Ralph Damren of Pittsfield: He umpired for 50 years at all levels and serves as rules interpreter for the Eastern Maine Board of Umpires Association.
  • Dan Deshaies of New Gloucester: He umpired 27 Maine high school state championship games. He is the athletic administrator at Edward Little High School.
  • Thom Freeman: He led Bates College to Maine State Series titles in 1962 and 1963. He played four years in the New York Yankees organization.
  • Amel Kiszonak of Lisbon Falls: He was a three-year letterman at UMaine in the 1930s and later managed the Roberts 88ers to semipro success.
  • Mike Mazerall: He was a dominant pitcher for Westbrook High School in the early 1960s. He pitched in the Red Sox organization for four seasons.
  • Gary Williamson of Bethel: He played an integral role on the University of Southern Maine’s first Division III national championship team in 1991. He earned NCAA Regional MVP and World Series MVP honors.
