BOSTON — The city of Boston will end this week with a celebration.
Mayor Michelle Wu announced Tuesday morning that the Boston Celtics' championship parade is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m., NBC Boston reports.
Boston beat the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 on Monday night to finish off a five-game roll through the finals and secure the team’s record 18th championship.
Wu said the parade would begin in front of TD Garden on Causeway Street, pass by City Hall Plaza and the Boston Common on Tremont Street, and end on Boylston Street by the Hynes Convention Center.
The city planned to hold a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to share additional event details, including safety measures and preparations for this week's heat wave, according to NBC Boston.
The mayor's office said Celtics players will celebrate on Boston's famous duck boats, which past championship teams in the city have traditionally done.
The Celtics went 16-3 this postseason and finished with an 80-21 overall record. That .792 winning percentage ranks second in team history behind only the Celtics’ 1985-86 championship team that finished 82-18 (.820).
Monday night's victory put a championship bow on dizzying two-year stretch for the Celtics, that saw them lose in the finals to the Golden State Warriors in 2022 and then fail to return last season after a Game 7 home loss to the Miami Heat in the conference finals.
