Varsity Club: On and off the court, this high school senior embodies 'Lewiston Strong'

Lewiston high school student Natalie Beaudoin helped launch fundraising efforts to help families affected by the Oct. 25 mass shooting.

LEWISTON, Maine — Natalie Beaudoin and her Lewiston High School basketball teammates are treading into uncharted waters this season. The Blue Devils are off to a 2-0 start and the senior captain is hoping to do something she has yet to accomplish in her successful career.

“I just want to make it as far in the playoffs as possible because I’ve never played in a playoff game," Beaudoin said. “So far, it’s looking like our team has a lot of promise.”

Beaudoin said she hopes to mirror the success of Lewiston's boy's soccer team, which won the Maine Class A state championship this fall.

While she hopes to make her playoff debut during her last high school season, Beaudoin will continue her playing career at the University of Vermont next fall where she'll study biological science.

“I have a knack for helping people," she said. "I want to be a doctor, so I think taking the biological science route gives me a lot of options in what I can do from there.”

The passion for helping others in her community can also be seen every time she and her teammates take the court this season.

Following the Oct. 25 mass shooting, Beaudoin, along with her marketing agency Pliable, designed and is selling "We Are Lew1ston" shirts with proceeds going toward the families affected by the tragedy.

“I’ve lived in Lewiston my whole life, I feel like we’re a tight knit community, being able to be an advocate for my community is what I wanted to do," she added.

Through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) representation from Pliable, Beaudoin has also teamed up with businesses to grow her own brand while giving back to her community.

After signing a partnership with New England-based coffee company Aroma Joe's, she worked on an initiative that also gave back to families affected by the mass shooting.

While there is still more work to be done on the court, in the classroom, and in the community, Beaudoin said she hopes she leaves a positive impact around school after graduation.
