(NEWS CENTER Maine) -- 8-man high school football is moving ahead in Maine.
At a meeting today, the Maine Principal's association football committee decided to do away with Class E and replace it with an 8-man league. Classes A, B, C and D will remain.
The Press herald reports that schools with an enrollment of less than 350 students will be eligible for the new format. Larger schools can also petition to play 8 man football, which may lead two divisions, depending on how many schools want to participate.
Schools will be surveyed, then the football committee will meet again in January to finalize its proposal.
