Black Bears drop first game of Border War series with Wildcats

DURHAM, New Hampshire (NEWS CENTER) -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team began a weekend series with its biggest rivals on Friday night.

The Black Bears took the ice in Wildcat territory to start the home-and-home series.

UMaine jumped out to an early lead when Mitchell Fossier scored a power play goal when his centering attempt hit off a UNH defender's skate.

That would be all the celebrating for the Black Bears as the Wildcats would score five unanswered goals, picking up a 5-1 victory.

Game two is Saturday night at Alfond Arena in Orono.
