Sea Dogs announce makeup games after nor'easter delays season opener

A nor'easter last week threw a curveball at the team's opening dates this season.

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Sea Dogs announced Monday makeup dates for the first two games of the season following a nor'easter last week that resulted in poor field conditions

The games originally slated for Friday and Saturday against the Hartford Yard Goats have been rescheduled as doubleheaders on May 21 at 6 p.m. and May 24 at 4:30 p.m., according to a news release. Both doubleheaders will be single admission with 30 minutes between each seven-inning game. Tickets are valid for both games on each respective day, the release stated.

Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. on May 21 and at 3:30 p.m. on May 24. Post-game fireworks are scheduled to conclude the May 24 doubleheader.

Those with tickets originally for the postponed Friday and Saturday games can exchange their tickets for ones of equal or lesser value to any Sea Dogs home game this year, subject to availability, the release said.

Questions about tickets can be directed to the Sea Dogs ticket office at 207-879-9500 or tickets@seadogs.com.

This is only the fifth time the team has postponed its Opening Day due to snow in its 31-year history, according to an earlier release from the Sea Dogs.

Other events were also postponed due to the weather.

The Slugger golden bobblehead giveaway, presented by Key Bank, has been moved to Tuesday, April 16, when the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive the Slugger golden bobblehead commemorating his Mascot Hall of Fame induction. Gates to the ballpark will open at 4:30 p.m.

The Sea Dogs magnet giveaway, scheduled to be handed out to the first 1,000 fans on April 6, has been rescheduled for April 20.
