AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Senate voted 18-17 Tuesday in favor of a version of LD 798, which would prohibit parents from excluding kids from mandatory primary/secondary school vaccines for religious/philosophical reasons.
Discussion on the bill was tabled last week, NECN reports.
Last week, the House rejected a Senate amendment added the week prior that would have kept religious exemptions intact.
In addition to all 14 Republican members, three Democrats voted against the motion — Sens. Erin Herbig of Belfast, Louis Luchini of Ellsworth and David Miramant of Camden.
Sen. Jim Dill, D-Old Town, previously voted against the measure two weeks ago. This time, his vote was in favor.
The legislation faces a round of procedural votes in both chambers before heading to Gov. Janet Mills' desk, the Associated Press reports.
