(NEWS CENTER) -- Those who recently visited Tim Hortons locations in Southern and Central Maine were met with a sign that read, "Thank you for your patronage. We apologize for any inconvenience. This location is now closed."
At least nine locations, including Biddeford, Topsham, Lewiston, Auburn, Augusta, South Portland, Scarborough and Norway have closed. The three locations in Bangor were open for business on Friday.
The Maine Department of Labor says it was not notified by Tim Hortons that the company would be closing several stores, but there is no mandatory reporting requirement for businesses with fewer than 100 employees.
The DOL estimates that the combined closure of those several locations will leave close to 100 Mainers without work.
Career Centers in Brunswick, Lewiston, Portland and Springvale have heard from workers, and are prepared to help.
The Maine Department of Labor has scheduled two sessions for workers affected by the closing of Tim Hortons. The session for Augusta will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Augusta CareerCenter, 21 Enterprise Drive, Suite 2. The South Portland session will be Tuesday, November 24 at 9 a.m. at the Greater Portland CareerCenter, 151 Jetport Boulevard in Portland.
