AUGUSTA, Maine — With summer approaching quickly, Maine authorities want to remind people about the current rules in the state regarding the use of fireworks.
The general guide to consumer fireworks use, from the Maine Office of the State Fire Marshall and other law enforcement agencies, is as follows:
- Consumer fireworks may be used from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. On July 4 and December 31 (and the weekends immediately before and after these dates), they may be used from 9 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. the next day.
- A person can only use fireworks on property where the property owner has given consent.
- A person who uses fireworks in an area without receiving consent could face a fine between $50 and $500.
- A person under 21 years old may not purchase, use, or possess consumer fireworks in Maine.
- In Maine, people cannot use missile-type rockets, helicopters and aerial spinners, or skyrockets and bottle rockets.
The above rules apply if your community does not already have ordinances restricting or prohibiting the use of consumer fireworks in your community.
