Body recovered from Androscoggin River

The Maine Warden Service responded to a report of a capsized boat in the Androscoggin River on Thursday evening.

TOPSHAM, Maine — A body was recovered from the Androscoggin River in Topsham early Friday morning after an incident of a capsized boat. 

The Maine Warden Service responded to a report of a capsized boat in the Androscoggin River in Topsham at approximately 7:11 p.m. Thursday evening, according to a press release shared by the Topsham Police Department on Facebook

Two of three men involved in the incident were rescued from the river, with assistance from the Lisbon Fire, Durham Fire, Topsham Fire, and Lisbon EMS departments, according to the release. 

Richard Stevens, 32, was not rescued with the others. Authorities searched until 2 a.m. Friday morning, then resumed the search at 7 a.m. later the same day. 

Stevens' body was recovered by Maine Warden Service divers at approximately 11:42 a.m. on Thursday morning in 21 feet of water, the release said. His body was then brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further investigation. 

"The Maine Warden Service, Topsham Police, Brunswick Police, Fire, and Rescue personnel from Topsham, Durham, and Lisbon, and the Maine Marine Patrol responded to the scene and initiated search efforts," the release said. 

K-9 teams from Maine Search and Rescue Dogs and the Maine Warden Service also participated in the search efforts. 

The Maine Warden Service is still conducting an investigation at this time. 

No further information has been released.
