"We take our work seriously. But we don't take ourselves seriously ." That's how Sharon Rose Vaznis describes her role as part of the highly rated NEWS CENTER Morning Report team. She, Lee Nelson, and Kevin Mannix have been working together since October of 1996. Though there is no easy way to confirm it, the three may very well make-up the longest running morning news team in the country.
Before joining the morning team, Sharon held several positions at both WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2, starting as a weekend producer in 1989. She says her work behind the camera gave her a solid foundation to move out into the field and behind the news desk as a reporter and anchor.
During her career, Sharon has covered a wide range of stories, from crime to food festivals. Among her most memorable work, an in-depth series of reports on Lyme disease. "I heard from hoards of Lyme patients who were very grateful that someone was finally telling their story. It reminded me why I got into this business in the first place: to touch people's lives."
Sharon grew up in Vermont and earned her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from Ithaca College in upstate New York. Formerly Married to News Center reporter Chris Rose, the two have two daughters, Miranda and Duffy. Sharon is now married to songwriter and musician Rick Vaznis, who uses the musical pen name of Jericko Rose, and who hails from the Millinocket area. His children, Jak and Samantha, say Sharon is a pretty cool step-mom. Their household also includes one gerbil, three hermit crabs, a cat, and perhaps very soon, a dog. Stay tuned....
