Remodeling at Bangor International Airport

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- People traveling through Bangor International Airport will soon be moving through a new ticketing and passenger check in center. The airport also has a new baggage handling system. The newly remodeled center is scheduled to open next week.

These renovations will cost about 14 million dollars. According to Robbie Beaton, Superintendent of Operations for Bangor International Airport some of that money consists of renovations to the 1st floor.

That will cost about 10 million dollars. He said this will take all of the airlines onto one side of the terminal with a new look and a new in line screening system where Luggage will be able to be screened behind the walls. There is also a new baggage system which is about a 4 and a half million dollar project.

Beaton said that the money came from "a variety of funding sources".

Beaton said that TSA is "helping to fund the baggage equipment and system" while the Federal Government is helping "to fund some of it through "passenger facility charge, in our airport improvement program...and also the State of Maine is participating with a local share as well".

Beaton said there is also a new addition that encloses the baggage area for the airlines, and all of these renovations are to make operations more effective for everyone involved.

"...The airlines, especially TSA, screening should be a lot smoother, a lot easier, it's one system, everybody puts their bags, on one system, it goes out all the bags, that need to be hand screened will go into a certain area. So it should make it a lot easier and smother for everybody" said Robbie Beaton, Superintendent of Operations for Bangor International Airport.

The new ticketing and passenger check in center is scheduled to open on December 8th.
