PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) — In an election season like no other in Maine, two Democratic candidates for governor are teaming up to ask people to vote for them.
Mark Eves and Betsy Sweet have sent a video message to supporters, urging them to support the progressive agenda by ranking them first and second on the ballot. Tuesday’s primary will be the first time ranked-choice voting is used in a statewide election.
The candidates say it doesn’t matter which of them is ranked first, as long as one of them wins the Democratic primary.
A message to supporters from the campaigns say the only way for the party to beat Republicans and win the governor’s race is by promoting "|progressive value like expanding health care, raising the minimum wage, and getting corporate money out of politics."
A staff member for Eves said volunteers will be spreading the same message when they contact voters in the remaining days of the campaign.
