PORTLAND, Maine — Republican Sen. Susan Collins has officially announced who she will be voting for this November.
Collins said Friday she plans to write-in former United Nations Ambassador, Nikki Haley.
"I endorsed her publicly," Collins said. "I think she would be a great president, and I am going to write her in."
Haley dropped out of the race in March which makes Collins' vote largely symbolic. However, the senator has said for months she would not support former President Donald Trump.
When asked whether she had a recommendation for a running mate for the former president, Collins said she does not. She expects Trump to announce his pick for vice presidential candidate early next week at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
"Trump is going to keep that information very tight held," Collins said. "I've talked to individuals in the mix, and they don't know. ... I don't believe the eventual nominee has been informed."
Collins was in Maine on Friday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the newest Police Activities League Community Center in Auburn.
According to a news release issued by her office, Collins was involved in the process to secure about $3 million through fiscal year 2023 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill to build the new center.
