Maine Democratic delegates unanimously vote to endorse Harris

The move to support Harris as their preferred presidential candidate comes after President Joe Biden announced the end of his 2024 re-election campaign on Sunday.

AUGUSTA, Maine — Monday night, the Maine delegation to the Democratic National Convention voted unanimously to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign to become the Democratic presidential nominee.

The move comes after President Joe Biden announced the end of his 2024 re-election campaign on Sunday, shortly after, endorsing Harris to take his spot in the race. She does not automatically become the nominee.

The Democratic Party plans to push ahead with a virtual role call where delegates can choose their presidential nominee before the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19 in Chicago. Harris is heavily favored by many Democratic lawmakers, including Gov. Janet Mills and U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.

The Maine delegation said in a news release "They are excited to travel to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August to help share the story of the Democratic Party and to celebrate the rise of a new generation of Democratic leadership."
